The New Year is quickly approaching, and with the New Year comes New Year’s Resolutions. You know, those goals we keep for one to two weeks and then forget about them?
This year, why not make realistic goals beginning with looking inward.
What is it you want to better about your life that you have control over?
Maybe you’d like to be healthier?
Wouldn’t we all?
Here are three easy steps to help you make and not break those New Year’s Resolutions.
1- Calm Down
One of the greatest things you can do for yourself is to calm down. With a calm mind, you can make better choices, like not eating that second donut or not skipping exercise class.
Each day, find at least ten minutes for yourself to sit calmly and think about what you want to accomplish. Just sit and breathe. With a calm mind, you will find that life just works better, and you may find that the decisions you make are more positive.
2- Be Realistic
Set a goal for yourself that is realistic. If you want to start jogging, set a goal of running from one mailbox to the next, and week by week extend that distance. Too often, we set goals that are emotionally and sometimes physically destructive. Seek out the advice of a personal trainer at your gym to help you create a realistic goal for yourself.
3. Be Kind to Yourself
Look, you’re human, and you may backslide with your resolution, and that’s OK. When that happens, forgive yourself and then move on! No sense in beating yourself up if you miss a Spin Class or walk between mailboxes when you were suppose to run. Know that you will get to where you need to be one step at a time!
You’ve got this!
