Here’s What You’ll Need:
- a splash or two of red wine
- large sweet onion
- 4 gloves of garlic
- cooking oil
- 2 cups of flour
- 8 lbs of stew beef
- 5 lb bag of potatoes
- 2 bags of baby carrots
- salt and pepper
What You’ll Need to Do:
- Turn on your favorite holiday music.
- Place your vacuum sealed beef stew in a bowl of water in the sink to defrost.
- Pour a splash or two of red wine in your crockpot and turn the crockpot on high.
- Place a few tablespoons of oil in your frying pan, and set it on medium heat.
- Peel and cut up the onion, and throw it in the pan.
- Peel and mince the garlic, and throw that in the pan.
- Stir until the onions become a clear yellowish color.
- Place onions and garlic in the crockpot, and keep the oil in the pan. Set pan aside.
- Chop up your potatoes and carrots and place them in the crockpot.
- Have a sip of wine – sing. Now I don’t want to hear how you can’t sing. If you can talk, you can sing. So, go on, SING!
- Place flour in a bowl and add salt and pepper (around 10 shakes or less if the doctor has said to back off the salt).
- Remove and rinse the beef stew from the packages and place them on your cutting board.
- Cut the beef stew into bite-sized portions if needed.
- Hit beef with a meat tenderizer mallet a couple of times to prepare the beef for the flour and also to keep beat with the music you are listening to.
- Throw the beef into the bowl.
- Place the pan back on medium heat, (you can have another sip of wine here if your burner takes a while to heat the pan) and once the oil is hot again, place the pieces of beef in the pan and quickly turn to brown on each side.
- Place beef in crockpot, add water to cover stew. Now, concentrate on the singing part. Just kidding. You don’t have to concentrate at all. Just sing.
- Place about 1/4 cup or the remaining flour mixture from the bowl into the pan of oil and stir until flour turns light brown.
- Add a cup or two of water to the browned flour, and stir until gravy mixture is smooth.
- Pour gravy into the crockpot, and turn down the setting to low.
- Cook on low for 4-6 hours, put your feet up, drink your wine, and keep singing!
